Tools Reclaim Nature uses to track sargassum conditions.
The following tools provide real-time and forecast sargassum data for Puerto Rico and the wider Caribbean. Reclaim Nature uses these resources to monitor incoming sargassum events and pre-position offshore infrastructure before arrival. All links open in a new tab.
CariCOOS Sargassum Monitoring
The Caribbean Coastal Ocean Observing System provides real-time oceanographic data, sargassum tracking, and coastal condition monitoring for Puerto Rico and the wider Caribbean. The primary scientific monitoring tool used by Reclaim Nature for operational planning.
Visit CariCOOS →USF Sargassum Watch System
The University of South Florida Optical Oceanography Lab provides satellite-based sargassum density maps and outlook bulletins for the tropical Atlantic and Caribbean. Updated weekly during peak season.
Visit USF Sargassum Watch →NOAA Harmful Algal Bloom Monitoring
NOAA's National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science provides harmful algal bloom monitoring and sargassum response data for U.S. coastal territories including Puerto Rico.
